Shalimar...First oriental fragrance in modern perfumery.
ITS FRAGRANCE
Whether in Eau de Parfum or Eau de Toilette, the fragrance opens with notes of Vanilla, Iris and Bergamot. A fragrance that marks the wearer with its presence and those who smell it with its presence.
Olfactory Family: ORIENTAL - VANILLA
Top Note: Cedarwood, Bergamot, Lemon, Mandarin
Heart Note: Jasmine, Rose, Patchouli, Iris
Base Note: Peruvian Balsam, Benzoin, Vanilla, Leather
Jacques Guerlain dares to use a brand new gourmet molecule, ethylvanillin associated with the Jicky accord.
Overwhelmed by this deliciously carnal creation that he reworks day and night, he already knows that he is heading towards a "little revolution", that of the first pure oriental. By incorporating oriental accords of amber woods, tonka bean and civet in a feminine fragrance, it brings depth and intensity never before seen.
The fragrance takes off with the lively freshness of lemon and bergamot. The heart is composed of jasmine, may rose and iris.
Finally, the base combines vanilla, opopanax, tonka bean and the new ethylvanillin molecule.
Shalimar has known different variations throughout its history. Note among the most famous the Souffle de Parfum, Souffle de Lumière, Souffle Intense, Souffle d’Or… as well as the versions Eau, Eau de Toilette, Eau de Cologne…
THE BRAND
Guerlain is one of the oldest brands in perfumery. It was founded by its creator, the perfumer Pierre Guerlain, in 1828. Until the middle of the 20th century, the brand's elixirs had Baccarat bottles as their common point.
When Pierre Guerlain died, his nephew Jacques Guerlain, trained by his uncle, took over and created sumptuous compositions whose names are still in the brand's catalog. such as the Blue Hour or Mitsouko.
It will be and remains a huge commercial success in the world, especially in the United States since after the war in 1945, many GIs brought back bottles of it to their good -aimée.
Today the fragrance remains timeless.
ITS BOTTLE
Guerlain is above all a family history, the unique but varied passions and know-how of the members of the Guerlain family. Thus, the bottle designed by Raymond Guerlain in collaboration with Mr. Chevalier, glass blower for Baccarat, is the most beautiful setting that can be given to a perfume. Its curves and lines are inspired by the Mughal gardens of northern India also called Shalimar.
In 1925 at its first public presentation at the International Art Exhibition decorations of Paris, it logically receives the prestigious first prize.
SHALIMAR IN ADVERTISING
This perfume has stood the test of time and with each Shalimar inspired great artists starting with the famous early twentieth century illustrators Georges Buisson, Elise Darcy, Charnotet, Léonard, Cassandre, Clément Serveau. Then came the cinema and television where we find advertising films made by the brilliant Italian photographer Paolo Roversi and more recently the promotional film The Legend of Shalimar, a short film honoring this eternal perfume in 2013 with the sublime muse Natalia Vodianova who, like a princess waiting for her prince charming, is entrenched in a palace in the middle of the Shalimar gardens.
The legend of Guerlain was born.
The HISTORY OF SHALIMAR PERFUME
True potion of femininity and inspired by the story of a crazy love between an emperor and an Indian princess, Shalimar, which means in Sanskrit "Temple of Love", forever symbolizes the essence of desire, the promise of eternal love.
There are 4 centuries, in India, Emperor Shah Jahan fell madly in love with Princess Mumtaz Mahal.
He created the marvelous gardens of Shalimar for her, then dedicated the Taj Mahal to her, one of the new seven wonders of the world. .
Oriental beacon in perfumery, a bit sulphurous, always incandescent, it embodies a sensuality on edge, a hint of the forbidden.
"Wearing Shalimar means letting your senses take over," said Jacques Guerlain.
It will be presented at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris, at the Grand Palais in 1925.
